Fractions as Decimals
Remember, decimals are another way of showing fractions. Let's look at how some fractions convert into decimals: 8/10 is the same as 0.8 or 8 tenths
If a fraction has a denominator of 10, 100 or 1000 you can easily find the decimal equivalent by looking at the numerator and counting over the correct number of places.
For example, to convert 23/100 into a decimal:
- Start at the right of the 23 in the numerator and move two places to the left.
- Place a decimal point to the left of the 23 to show .23 or twenty three hundredths.
For other fractions, you can divide to find the decimal equivalent. For example, if you use a calculator to divide 1/8 (1 divided by 8) you get .125
